Women’s History Month 2022

The law library celebrated Women’s History Month this year using the following images on our social media.

Judge J. Michelle Childs - University of South Carolina School of Law graduate in 1999. South Carolina Circuit Court Judge in 2006. US District Court Judge for the District of South Carolina in 2010.

Book covers - Jane Crow, The Firebrand and the First Lady, Pauli Murray, Pauli Murray & Caroline Ware. Pauli Murray 1944 - JD with honors. 1951 - published her first book, States Laws on Race and Color. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall later called it his "bible" in the historic Brown v. Board of Education case of 1954.

Judge Diane Humetewa. 1993 - graduated with JD. 1996 - tribal liaison in US Attorney office in Arizona. 2014 - confirmed as first Native American woman and enrolled tribal member (Hopi) to serve as a federal judge

Rollin sisters. Frances, Katherine, Charlotte, Marie louis, and Florence Rollin were born in Charleston, SC. 1867 - moved to Columbia; became known for advocacy of universal suffrage. 1870 - organized Women's Rights Convention
